Victor “Med” Medyanik is a fan of the football club “Vorskla” (Poltava).
Viktor Viktorovich Medyanik was born on March 27, 2000 in Poltava. He studied at lyceum No. 29, after which he continued his studies at the Poltava University of Economics and Trade. Since childhood, he was very calm, interested in history and was very well read. According to the memories of his relatives, he spent a lot of time at home, but everything changed a lot at the age of 14-15, when he began to participate in rallies and community initiatives.
The Vorskla fan sector began to visit since 2019. According to the memories of a close friend from the movement that brought Victor to the sector, the process of supporting the team so captivated him that after a while he was already calling his friends to football, and not them him. In the movement, Victor was known as a reliable and honest person who was ready to drive the team forward under any circumstances. He always gave all his strength and all his voice on the podium, and eagerly climbed into any “doubles” if something went wrong, or someone encroached on his friends from the sector.
Teammates recall Victor's first trip to Alexandria, before which he was very worried. However, from the first minutes of being on the bus - all his excitement went somewhere and he gave himself as much as possible to two. The songs, the call of the police and the victory of the team - made him happy that day, although he fell asleep on the way.
During the events of the Revolution of Dignity, he became interested in the nationalist movement, but then he was only 14 years old, so his parents were not allowed to go to Kiev. After the beginning of the war in eastern Ukraine, he regretted that he could not yet join the army and was worried that history would pass without him. Then he directed all his energy into the patriotic movement and protests.
After graduation, he worked in one of the enterprises for the purchase of grain, later moved to an agricultural firm with his mother. Relatives recall a recent vacation trip to Andorra and France. Then the family managed to get out all together, as if anticipating - there will be no more such opportunity.
Victor decided to defend the country in the first days of a full-scale war, but in the Poltava military registration and enlistment office he could not mobilize because of his age (21 years). At first, he helped his mother with volunteer activities for several days, delivered food for military and civilians around the city. On March 27, on his 22nd anniversary, he posted a motivating post on the page on the social network. At that moment, the relatives understood - he was coming to arms.
Most of all, I did not want to get into a non-combat part. According to Victor, “so as not to protect some warehouses in the rear.” Therefore, soon he went to the Kiev region, to his friend and teammate Artem Medvedev, with whom he served in the TRO. Then he underwent military training with the Gurivs in the special unit “Stugna”, went on assignment as a volunteer, and Victor was refused registration because of his age.
He spent several days training in the “Right Sector” camp in Kiev, but in August 2022, Artem Medvedev died. On the same day, Med signed the contract and began service in the 93rd Brigade. He first served in the Seneca unit as a drone and airscope operator, but sought to participate in assault operations.
Victor was in Soledar, followed by 9 months in Bakhmut. Then he worked in Robotyne as part of the 78th regiment, and then he was in the 95th brigade. He performed his first combat mission as an assault officer in Toretsk, and in two months the Kursk operation began.
According to the memories of loved ones, Victor always had “everything very well” in the war. But he experienced the loss of friends very hard.
During the fighting in Kurshchina, he filmed a lot on his phone in real time. Including his last fight. So the relatives of “Meda”, and later the whole country, saw fragments of hostilities on the territory of the enemy, with his comments.
Victor Medyanik took the last fight on the evening of August 22, 2024. Being completely surrounded in Kurshchina, for more than two days he continued to fight with the Kadyrovs and refused to surrender to captivity.
The brothers were able to evacuate Victor's body by returning his phone with a lot of video to the family. Over time, some of these materials formed the basis of a documentary film shot by the American agency The Scripps, the premiere of which took place at the capital's October Cinema.
Buried on the Alley of Heroes in his hometown.
Eternal glory to the Hero!
