Roman “Sedoy” Kuzin is a fan of the football club “Shakhtar” (Donetsk), a representative of the team “City Guard Donetsk”.
Roman Sergeevich Kuzin was born on September 2, 1980 in the city of Donetsk. He studied at the local school No. 145, and after the 9th grade he continued his studies at Donetsk Polytechnic Technical School with a specialty as a mechanic technician. After completing his studies, he went to work at the Donetsk Metallurgical Plant, at the same time obtaining a second education at the Donetsk Institute of Market and Social Policy. Since childhood, he was very fond of football, and his father brought him to the Shakhtar match for the first time. Watching the game of his favorite team, the young man often looked at the fan stand, which attracted him from the very beginning.
At the age of 14, Roman first came to the sector and to the end remained a devoted fan of the club, supporting at home and away matches. He witnessed and actively participated in the events of the heyday of football in the country, with its large-scale street battles and other attributes that later remained only in stories among contemporaries. He himself came up with a design and made a banner, and then a tattoo of the fan movement.
In 2014, Donetsk quickly found itself under pressure from pro-Russian collaborators. Like most active Shakhtar fans, Roman went to pro-Ukrainian rallies and, together with friends, tried to resist the growing influence of pro-Russian sentiment, into which his hometown was rapidly sinking. But then the forces were not equal, at the beginning of 2015 the Kuzins family left their home and left for Kharkov.
In the same year, Roman took up arms, joining the ranks of the 54th OMBR of the Armed Forces. He took part in battles in Popasna and on the Svitlodarskaya arc. In March 2020, he became a fighter of the Azov regiment, where there were many friends from the fan environment and took the nickname “Hughes”. He served as a grenade launcher of the 1st anti-tank fire support platoon of the 3rd operational company of the 1st battalion of the 3057th Infantry Regiment in the rank of sergeant. During the years of service, he had awards and state honors, including: “For participation in the anti-terrorist operation”, “Cross of the 54th OMB” and others.
In the team, Roman was friendly and always calm, supported the younger brothers. Wife Julia recalls that endurance and prudence were strong traits of her husband's character, with whom it was impossible to quarrel. He loved and pampered their daughter very much, allowed everything and called her a princess. They had their own world. Realizing the inevitability of the Great War, he also calmly explained to his wife the need to make passports and keep a suitcase with documents and everything necessary at hand. He said he would suddenly have to leave.
When a full-scale invasion still began, I contacted my relatives every 3-4 days. He said that there are a lot of invaders, but the defenders of Mariupol repel enemy invasions. The last time he called was on March 14, just to say that he was doing well and that he and his family would be able to see each other soon. Roman Kuzin died on March 22, 2023, while performing a combat mission. Awarded the Order “For Courage” III degree (posthumously).
