
Denis “Train” Babii is a fan of the football club “Niva” (Vinnitsa), a representative of the team “Sportowia”.
Denis Alexandrovich Babii was born on July 5, 1993 in the village of Salkovo (Kirovohrad region), where he studied at a local secondary school. In 2001, the family moved to Vinnitsa, where he continued to study at school No. 29, after which he entered the Odessa National Academy of Communication named after him. O. S. Popova. He was involved in contact sports, including boxing and freestyle wrestling. According to the memories of his relatives, from an early age he was very independent, trying to solve any issues, whether with studies or other life circumstances. He had a knack for drawing, which later led him to become interested in tattoos and graffiti.
Since 2008, he began to visit the fan sector of Vinnytsia “Niva”. For his love of traveling by train, he received the call sign “Train”. Subsequently, he became one of the leaders of the fan movement. During the years of active support of the club in the stadiums and beyond, he was in touch with several football teams that appeared and disappeared in the city. Having started their fan journey together with the ultra-movement “Greenadiers”, then there were “Collective” and “Sportowia” - all of them left their mark in the history of the Vinnytsia fan movement. He took part in many high-profile football events.
On December 1, 2013, together with other Vinnytsia fans, “Train” was a participant in the protests on the street. Bank in Kiev. In the future, he participated in the events of the Maidan, which were important for the country. In those days, representatives of the Vinnytsia movement were active participants in the resistance to criminal authorities both in the capital and in their hometown. After the beginning of the war in the East, he organized and transported humanitarian aid to Donbas, and also helped families who lost their families on the Maidan.
“Train” devoted a lot of time to working with young people. He was engaged in patriotic education, was the head of the Vinnytsia branch of the organization “Centuria”, which included the youngest members of the Azov movement. He was engaged in shooting, and later became an instructor in fire training. Initiated the evacuation of people during the explosions of ammunition depots in Kalynivka in 2017. In those years, Denis's name was associated with a large number of anti-corruption and just socially useful initiatives that took place in the city. Their respect and support were expressed by people in various circles of the city's political and social life.
In the fall of 2019, Denis married his beloved Ivanna, with whom they have been dating since 2013. - “It was a love that is written about in books and films are made,” she recalls. The couple had many plans for the future. He ran a tattoo parlor, which was a place of creative inspiration for Denis and his friends. Had a life full of adventures with travel, boat rafting and hiking.
In the first days of a full-scale war, Denis, together with a group of representatives of the Vinnytsia movement, went to the defense of the capital. Joining the “Azov-Kyiv” TRO, he immediately became a platoon commander. During the defense of Kiev, he took command of the company during one of the key battles on this section of the front - the village of Moshchon. Last but not least, thanks to the efforts of his company, the enemy's offensive was stopped, the capital was defended.
After the liberation of the Kiev region, “Train” participated in the attempted deblockade of Mariupol. As part of the newly formed 3rd OSHBR successfully operated with its fighters in the Zaporizhzhya direction. He commanded an infantry company during the Bakhmut Campaign. Denis Babiy died on April 21, 2023 defending the city of Bakhmut, receiving wounds incompatible with life.
A month and a half after the death of Denis, his daughter Solomiya was born. He was very much looking forward to the birth of a child, dreaming of ending the war with victory, so that all Ukrainian children would have a peaceful future.
We said goodbye to Denis at the home stadium “Khimik”, in whose sector he and his friends supported Niva for many years. He was buried on the Alley of Heroes of the Sabarivsky cemetery in Vinnytsia. On August 25, 2023, Denis Babia was awarded the title “For services to Vinnytsia”. In the fall of the same year, the former street was renamed in his honor. Verharnu, on which Denis once lived.
