Glory to the Heroes! Stand of Heroes and FC Dynamo held a Memorial Match in honor of the fallen fans of the Kyiv club
The match of the 25th round of the UPL Dynamo vs. Polissya was not only a spectacular match at the home stadium of Kyiv, but also an important memorial event. FC Dynamo together with the Stand of Heroes Foundation dedicated this game to the memory of the died ultras of the Club.
Unfortunately, Dynamo's fan movement that has suffered the greatest losses among the fans who have fallen in the war - 47 fans from Kyiv returned home on the shield. The families of our Heroes were invited to this match, and they continue the work of their loved ones and support Dynamo in the stands.
- Unfortunately, 250 football fans have been killed in the war so far, 47 of them are representatives of the Dynamo fan movement. And these events are important precisely because they pay tribute to those guys who will forever remain on the Heroes' Stand.
Support for the families of the fallen soldiers is equally important. Such events are significant for them because they know that their loved one’s heroic deeds have not been forgotten, and they always have support. We have once again proved that the Football Family is a cohesive mechanism that has united for help, remembrance, and support,” commented Dmytro Kukurudza, co-founder of the Stand Heroes Foundation.
The “Match of Memory” began with a minute of silence in honor of the loyal fans who returned from the war “on the shield,” and children from the families of the fallen Heroes accompanied the teams to the field. The first symbolic shot of the game was taken by 8-year-old Sava and 9-year-old Anastasia, children from the families of representatives of the FC Dynamo fan movement: Maxim Yalovtsov and Ruslan Kurulyak.
Maksym Yalovtsov (call sign “Regbist”) was a legendary member of the Dynamo Kyiv ultra movement, one of the leaders of the Capitals team, a coach and a public figure. He was killed on September 21, 2022, while performing a combat mission behind enemy lines in the Zaporizhzhia direction.
Ruslan Kuruliak (call sign “Oblomov”) - a native of Zhytomyr, a fan of Dynamo Kyiv and Polissia Zhytomyr, a participant in the war in the East since 2014. He was killed on January 24, 2023, while performing a combat mission behind enemy lines in the Kherson sector.
- Such events are extremely important now, as we must remember our Heroes because they died for our future. And it is our social mission to support their families because they need psychological and moral support. When the initiative to organize a Match of Remembrance came from the Stand of Heroes charity foundation, Dynamo Football Club immediately responded and gladly agreed to help organize this event.
Of course, we can't say that the atmosphere was positive, but the most important thing we saw today was the smiles on the children's faces. But this event was very sensitive for everyone. And not only for the families but for all the people who were at the stadium,” summarized Yaroslav Honchar, Director of Dynamo's Fan Relations Department.
The special guests of the Match of Memory witnessed a spectacular match and Dynamo's victory, which gave them even more pleasant emotions.
Dmytro Pavlichenko, the father of the fallen Dynamo fan and public activist Serhiy Pavlichenko, shared his thoughts after this emotional event:
- First of all, this match is about the memories of Serhiy, who used to play football at Dynamo. But then he got injured and had to choose what to do next: get treatment, stay in sports, or get a higher education. Serhii decided to quit professional sports, but football remained in his life. Of course, he hardly ever told me about his participation in the fan movement.
And when such events happened to us, when my son and I were accused of a crime we were not involved in, the ultras stood up for us, and then ultras from all over Ukraine united around it. Ultras helped us and united for justice.
This match was an unusual event for me. We have 47 dead ultras from Dynamo. And I believe that each of them should be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine because they gave up the most important thing they have - their lives. They are our heroes and we must honor them. These guys should be saints for us. Because they are not hooligans, they are sincere patriots. Glory to Ukraine! Victory will be ours.
The Stand of Heroes Foundation has more than one such special game planned.
