Football fans at war

We are football fans of Ukrainian clubs. Ultras and hooligans.
You definitely know us. We are among your friends and acquaintances, or you have seen us on TV. Our usual lifestyle is sports, travel, and entertainment around football matches.

Our main goal is to protect the integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
Soviet times
The history of the Ukrainian football fan movement begins.

The last decade before the beginning of perestroika ("restructuring") was quite active in the around-sports space, as fan movements appeared in many major Ukrainian clubs.

In addition to the desire of actively cheering for their favorite team, for contemporaries of those events it was also a certain gesture of disobedience to the Soviet government.

This government was not loved in many former republics, but Ukrainians have always had that dislike at some particularly high, genetic level.
Belonging to the fan movement gave young people the opportunity to express this disobedience, because a lot of what fans did in the USSR was undesirable, and even immediately prohibited.
On this basis, a new generation of football fans began to appear, who, in addition to respect for the team from their hometown, now professed love for everything Ukrainian.
The 90s
Everything changed with the total collapse of the totalitarian monster.

The 90s are imprinted in the memory of the population of Ukraine as a period of severe personal trials. Therefore for many people football and active fanaticism receded into the background.

The groups became smaller, but now it was possible to openly call yourself a Ukrainian nationalist and not to hide your love for everything Ukrainian.
The first half-mid of the 2000s
Ukrainian stadiums saw a new wave of football fanaticism.

At the same time, the culture of football fan groups began to form. Fans started to take the matter seriously, realized the necessity of sport in their lives, and the structure of the groups became more defined and started to look like a serious organization.                                                                                                                                                          Meanwhile, many large fan groups took an active part in the life of nationalist organizations in their cities. They took part in various, not yet very numerous, patriotic actions aimed at raising national consciousness among the population and other related things.
However, it should not be denied that most of all, we were interested in finding opportunities to clarify our relations with each other. Things would sometimes seem rather harsh. But looking back we all understand why it was necessary.
December 1, 2013
As the years were passing, there were more and more of us. The level of the organization grew with each new season. In some cases, the success of some football teams did not keep up with the glory of their ultras.

That lasted until the winter of 2013, when on December 1, Ukrainian nationalists and fans of many domestic clubs united to confront the criminal authorities in Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv and avenge the beating of students by the Ukrainian special police force - Berkut a few days earlier. As you know, the events of that day turned into the Revolution of Dignity, in the vanguard of which (not only in Kyiv) were football fans.

Then came the realization of the fact that now we need to forget the old disputes over club affiliation and unite for a common goal.
An all-Ukrainian fan truce was concluded, the scale of which Europe has not yet known.
Revolutionary events unfolded very quickly and almost in all the cities of the country. And not everywhere the situation was identical.
За наказом російських кураторів, в деяких містах сходу та півдня України, посіпаки загарбників прагнули створити недореспубліки та повалити конституційний лад.
The fans turned out to be the only force that was able to resist the organized collaborators with almost complete inaction of local authorities and security forces, who were quite hesitant about which side to take.
Odesa and Kharkiv remained Ukrainian in those days because there were strong fan movements in those cities, which firmly put the separatists in place.
Then our country faced a new test - the annexation of Crimea and the invasion of russian troops in Donbas.
And then the fans again became those who without hesitation went to the front and with their bodies covered their native land from the enemy.

Yes, for the majority of us, the war began not on February 24, 2022, but much earlier.

The first tasks, the first battles, and, unfortunately, the first death. Ukrainian fans fought for our Motherland with the same zeal with which they used to do their favorite thing. Without any combat experience, often even without normal weapons, many of us were not afraid, because the price of inaction was clear.
Eight years of war in Donbas
did not only changed our country but also influenced the fan community greatly
They gave birth to a galaxy of legendary personalities and commanders, who went into the hellish embrace of war right from the stadium.

They said goodbye to the fallen comrades as to the heroes of the military victory of the ancient world, which they were in their hearts.

Society acknowledged this fact, so in many cities, you can find memorial plaques and memorial signs in honor of the soldiers who wholeheartedly supported their native clubs and gave their lives for the independence of Ukraine.
Almost any great military victory of the nation has its price. And this price is terrible.
Thousands of lives of Ukrainian defenders who bravely defended our common Motherland, putting their feat above everything they had and loved in peacetime.

Each story is separate grief of the whole family.

Another news is spreading among the fan groups of the country.Someone is dead again. Now there will be a space in the fan/football sector forever.

As if torn out by a burning shell fragment, the wound will never heal. One more of us will not go to another city at the weekend to support our favorite team, will not tell interesting life stories in a half-darkened vestibule, and will not be able to take their son to the stadium for the first time.
The impersonal number 200 is always followed by a loss
Someone's husband, a loving son, and most importantly, the cry of children who will now grow up without parents. They will be proud to know that their loved ones have made an invaluable contribution to the formation of great Ukraine of the future.
It is our direct duty not to leave them alone with their loss.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to return the fallen Heroes to their families, but we will not allow ourselves to forget them

The Foundation
Stands of Heroes

bg element
That is why the initiative group of Ukrainian fans united to create the "Stands of Heroes" fund
The duties of the head of the fund were taken over by Tikhon Amosov - a well-known representative of the AFC team ("Metalist", Kharkiv), who saw the heyday of Ukrainian around-football in the early noughties and has an indisputable reputation among the fan community of the country.
Together with us, the stars of Ukrainian sports, famous players and coaches, journalists and football officials, and cultural figures help the relatives of the fallen heroes on the fronts of this war.
Join us in helping the families of the fallen fans! After all, we - like no one else - know that our strength in the face of the enemy lies in unity.
