
Roman “San” Shymalo is a fan of the football club “Karpaty” (Lviv).
Roman Aleksandrovich Shymalo was born on August 1, 1994 in the city of Lviv. He studied at school No. 90, after which he entered the Lviv Professional College of Hotel, Tourism and Restaurant Service. Since childhood, he was fond of football, active sports and martial arts, hiking, motor sports, and drew graffiti.
He first appeared in the fan sector of the Lviv “Carpathians” when he was 18 years old. And immediately set himself the goal - to “break through the Golden Season”. Roman quickly gained the respect of the guys at the outings, always showed himself to be an active participant in the fan movement.
Friends and classmates from college recall Roman as a sociable, intelligent, and prudent student, always active in public life. Before the events of 2014, he worked as a chef in one of Lviv's restaurants, and even then planned and built his career. Dreamed of my own house and a Japanese car. And a motorcycle, in which he understood and for a long time he could communicate on this topic. A special place in the life of Roman was also occupied by mountains. He loved him very much and always invited him to go hiking. The feeling of freedom, nature and adventure was appreciated almost the most.
When the Revolution of Dignity began, Roman left all his affairs, studies and became a participant in important events for our country. He felt he had to be there. He must take care of the fate of his own country. The events of 2014 and the Revolution of Dignity changed Roman. He chose the path of struggle for the Ukrainian state. He joined the National Corps, where he participated in political events. He went to school and prepared. Subsequently, he was called to serve in the National Guard of Ukraine.
In 2021, he became a fighter of OZSP “Azov”, where he took the call sign “Sun” (from the word “Sun”). He served as the senior machine-gunner of the 1st Operational Platoon of the 3rd Operational Assignment Company of the 1st Operational Assignment Battalion.
The beginning of a full-scale war was met in Mariupol, to which the overwhelming forces of the enemy were rapidly approaching. Roman Shimalo died on March 4, 2022, having received a wound incompatible with life while performing a combat mission.
Awarded the Order “For Courage” III degree (posthumously).
