Alexander “Journalist” Makhov is a fan of the football club “Zarya” (Luhansk).

Alexander Vladimirovich Makhov was born in the city of Luhansk on April 17, 1986. He graduated from the Volodymyr Dahl Eastern Ukrainian National University with a degree in journalism. From a young age he played football in the Academy of “Zori”, and later, already working on regional television, he led the program “Star Football”, which was dedicated to the main team of Luhansk region. Having started his career on the regional channel “IRTA”, in the future the talented specialist worked for many years on the channels “Ukraine” and “Ukraine24”, as well as on the channel “Dom” (in 2021-22).

In parallel with this, “Journalist” actively supported “Zorya” at home and away matches. He was considered his own in the sector, although he was not part of any of the teams. With the beginning of the occupation of Donbas by the Russians, Alexander covered the events in the combat zone and hosted a podcast called “Vojskkor”. In 2015 he joined the Ukrainian army, served as an anti-aircraft and machine-gunner in the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade. During the ATO, he took part in hostilities near Horlivka - in Zaitseve and Mayorsk.

The fate of the “Journalist” made interesting turns and did not let you get bored. In 2017, he received a business trip to Antarctica, which he called a short vacation between participation in hostilities and coverage of events on the Eastern Front. Its plots and inclusions introduced viewers to the nature of a remote and cold land. Along with this, Alexander always had a thirst for life, covered thousands of kilometers, climbed mountain peaks and ran marathons. It seems that I was not afraid of anything at all in this life. For example, in 2020 he was the only representative of the Ukrainian media at the observatory in Novi Sanzhary in Poltava region, where evacuees from Wuhan, China, were brought to quarantine.

All these years, “Journalist”, showing Ukrainians the war from the frontline, remembered his home and dreamed of returning to his native Luhansk. He often wore a T-shirt depicting a shooting plaque with the name of the city in which he was once born. With the beginning of a full-scale Russian invasion, he immediately went to the military registration and defense of Ukraine. Almost all the time he was in the Kharkiv region, where there was one of the hottest areas of the Great War. Not having the opportunity to be next to his beloved Anastasia, he made her an offer on a video with a ring from a grenade.

Alexander Makhov died in battle on May 4, 2022 as a result of artillery shelling, receiving a gunshot wound to the lung. Death was not instantaneous and the brave defender of Ukraine managed to ask the doctor to convey to his bride Alexander that he loved her. Buried “Journalist” at the Berkovetsky cemetery in Kyiv. On May 24, 2022, he was awarded the Order “For Courage” III degree (posthumously).
